For over a century, the steering wheel was a large, round wheel for one simple reason: drivers needed physical leverage to turn the wheels. For Alain Favey, Peugeot’s CEO, it was the catalyst to ask a radical question: why keep the steering wheel round if you no longer need to? That is why the Hypersquare will make its production debut not on an expensive concept, but on a compact city car: the all-electric e208 launching next year. The Dual Motor goes slightly less far, in exchange for 325 hp and all-wheel drive. How big is the boot? From 544 to 588 litres below the parcel shelf in five-seat configuration, depending on the powertrain, and up to 1,663 litres with the rear seats folded (1,619 litres on the 325 hp all-wheel-drive version). How long does charging take? Less than 30 minutes at a fast charger to go from 20 to 80 percent. Beyond 80 percent, charging slows down on every electric car.
