The new Jaguar is here! Here's the inside, outside, and under-the-skin story | Autocar

Jaguar has finally unveiled the production version of its (controversial?) new saloon, the @Jaguar Type 01. The four-door, four seat electric hyper GT car will go on sale in 2027 and was unveiled in New York today. Ahead of that, our editor-in-chief Steve Cropley interrogated its chief engineer Jon Darlington and head of design Andrew Wheel about what has gone into the (metaphorically) biggest new car of the year. From its 1000bhp-plus from three electric motors, through to how it sits so low and why divisiveness is better than 'meh', here's the inside story of the new Jag

He said “it’s true to lineage of what a jaguar should be.” No sir, it’s more akin to a Chinese EV.

At what point did everything start looking worse than before? I want to believe I'm just getting old and it's my nostalgia for the past, but something tells me the issue is much deeper..

The way they made the front end and the new badge look like a Chinese copy of Jaecoo is the most impressive thing about this vehicle.

Absolutely hated the marketing. But surprisingly not the car! Love the bold silhouette and the overall presence.

The fact that Jaguar's measure of success is debating the car's design instead of ensuring it's desirable and sellable proves that Jaguar's management has lost the plot with no business sense at all. If it fails, they deserve it.

Personally I think this looks awesome! Digital EV era= 1s and 0s and the design completely demonstrates it

Looks like something cobbled together with empty Ikea boxes

Unfortunately a once great car company has has completely lost the plot and gone completely electric and built the most hideous car ever, and for me I’ve completely lost interest in jaguar all together now.

The lack of a rear window would annoy the hell out of me , I prefer looking out the rear window when reversing . I don’t like using my mirrors

On a simple practicality point, the boot is too small with a sill that is too high. When your given a clean sheet of paper this would seem an own goal. What on Earth could be taking up all the space under the front bonnet? However I like the overall exterior design.

The design looks so good. It's so refreshing. Interiors could have been little more spacey but overall loved it.

Let's hope. We need to wait and see it's road presence. It's more authentic to Jaguar design principles. Than any pastiche of the past.

Well it is like the imaginative drawings AutoCar did some years ago, and like the later concept. People are talking about it, so they were absolutely on point. Cheers to you Jaguar well done.
