I like when you review older cars like these.

Someone tried to steal my former flatmate's former Excel, but they couldn't drive manual, so they tried to set the car on fire, and failed at that too. She was relieved, impressed, annoyed and disappointed at the same time.

Writing from California: Really appreciate the channel for reviewing the common man's vehicle such as this Hyundai.

The era when these were everywhere on the road Australia was a much better place than what it is today..

We had one of these as a work car, survived daily use for 24 years before being crashed. It was driven back to the yard after the crash and then continued being used as a yard car and then was sold to a demolition derby.

This is what makes the Redriven team fantastic. They review all types of cars and in doing so help all types of car buyers/enthusiasts. 🐐 Behaviour

I remember seeing these around with a big RPM dial bolted onto the dash, a cheap body kit all around and a gigantic wing. Those were great times.

In the late 1990s we bought a VT Commodore and one of these Excels as a second car. We kept the Excel for 15 years and 160 000km. We looked after it, and it was completely trouble free apart from usual maintenance. It was a bit flimsy in the body, but I loved driving it because, as Adam says, it was great fun to drive.) It still looked pretty much like new when we sold it. Our Commodore meanwhile gave endless trouble, and we ditched it after 5 years and bought a Mazda6.

I had a mate in high school who had a red excel. He fitted a stupidly powerful sound system with a massive subwoofer that took up most of the boot. Was hilarious to drive around in

I was in my 20s when these cars turned up and they really were revolutionary. A Corolla was asking 24K, a Nissan Pulsar (remember those?) was setting you back just under 20K and along comes this new entrant, $5000 cheaper and offering a three year 100 thousand kilometre warranty. For a lot of young people it felt like your first car could actually be a new car.

My grandma still has her 96 Excel cheap to maintain and keeps going.

The early X3s weren't fabulous but by the time we got to the late ones with the twin cams in them they were brilliant. If it wasn't for the fact they were too cheap and people didn't look after them and so many have become race and rally cars heaps more would still be on the road. But still, they're no AU Falcon

This is a great change of pace from your modern car reviews, I would love to see more 90s & early 2000s car reviews from you guys

First time car buyers had an option to buy new with the Excel, rather than take the risks on the second hand car market at this price point. I remember this kicked off the $13,990 drive away segment with other manufacturers introducing similar options.

Had a twin cam 2 door as my first car. It was so much fun to drive. The only issues I ever had with it was the window regulator and a crank angle sensor! People used to love to insult them but I always knew they had no idea!

The issue with driving a car like this here in Canada is that everyone else is driving a 5500 pound F-150 or an 8500 pound F-350 and if you hit one of those, or if one of those hits you in this you are toast 😂

Mum and Dad's 1992 excel is still going strong in the country and does everything that's needed. Only complaint now is trying to pull out of a carpark next to big 4WD's. can't see a damn thing 🤪
